ELEVATE WELLNESS CENTER
LOCATED IN THE BAYARD-CONDICT BUILDING, FLOOR 10 & 11
The focus of the wellness center is to alleviate the symptoms of depression. The idea of elevation is important, because it symbolizes the journey taken when treating depression.
The design is centered around the fluidity of the space in this project, as the space guides the visitor through the healing process. The space represents a similar unraveling that occurs when the user partakes in talk therapy as a treatment to depression. As the user works through their issues with the mental health professional, there becomes more pathways open. There is a path one can take through the space that guides along the various steps in alleviating the symptoms of depression.
Clay is used as the sustainable material for this project. Not only is it a naturally occurring material, but it is also far less energy intensive than other, similar building materials. Clay can be used as a load-bearing material or as a finishing material. Clay evokes the feeling of calm, due to its smooth texture and dark color. Clay is used to create a sense of “cocooning” in the spaces, such as the clay waiting area.
